FROM THE ARTISTIC DIRECTOR:
The much anticipated birth of Composer-in-Residence Chick Corea’s World Premiere is the centerpiece of this concert.  Corea chose to write the piece for three of his long time friends, violinist and MFAF Artistic Director Ida Kavafian, cellist Fred Sherry and clarinetist Richard Stoltzman, with himself at the piano.  In the thread that connects all of the concerts featuring Corea, it will be performed alongside an iconic work of Mozart (one of Corea’s heroes), the great Clarinet Quintet in A, with Richard Stoltzman in the featured role.  Corea, Kavafian and Sherry will revive a work by Corea that they performed and recorded in the early 80’s, called Addendum. Also on the program is the exciting La Oración del Torero by Turina, performed by the wonderful Harlem Quartet.  What an epic evening this promises to be!!
