Concerts in Angel Fire, Taos, Raton and Las Vegas
Music from Angel Fire's 2009 Season celebrates 26 years of bringing extraordinary chamber music to the magnificent Northern New Mexico mountain communities of Angel Fire, Taos, Raton and Las Vegas. 35 international artists will perform 15 exciting concerts with works ranging from the Baroque to the Contemporary.
Composer Augusta Read Thomas will join the Festival during this season together with many of your Festival favorites, including pianist Anne-Marie McDermott, flutist Tara Helen O’Connor, violinists Ida and Ani Kavafian and cellist Peter Wiley among many others. Robert Mirabal, the master of the Native American flute enchanted audiences for our Silver Anniversary and will join the Festival again in 2009.
In addition to three weeks of glorious chamber music, the Festival will present once again, selected student-musicians from the Curtis Institute of Music of Philadelphia for the Music From Angel Fire Young Artist Program.
Augusta Read Thomas and the Bruce E. Howden, Jr. American Composers Project
Augusta Read Thomas has been engaged as the Festival’s 2009 American Composer-in-Residence. Ms. Thomas was the Mead Composer-in-Residence with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra from May 1997 through June 2006, a residency that culminated in the premiere of Astral Canticle – one of two finalists for the 2007 Pulitzer Prize in Music. Most striking in her music is its exquisite humanity and poetry of the soul. The notion that music takes over where words cease is hardly more true than in her musical voice. We are delighted to have her join the Festival this Season.
Ticket Prices
Ticket prices range from $20 to $35 with all Family/Youth concerts and the Raton Community Concert complimentary.
