"One Truth, Many Variations"

2025 Season • August 14 - 28
Angel Fire • Taos • Raton

Music from Angel Fire has a long tradition of auctioning the piece of art chosen each season.  This year, Sharon L. Sorensen’s “Enchanted Moonlight,” has been selected.  This painting captures the beauty of New Mexico moonlight shining on the golden aspens in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. The artwork is an imagined reflection of the landscape based on plein air drawings. The winner of the painting will be announced–if they wish to be named–at one of the concerts.

To place your bid, email [email protected], or call (575) 377-3233. Bidding closes at midnight August 27th.  The winner will be announced at the final concert on August 29th. Current bid is $2,600.

Artistic Directors Welcome

We are delighted to welcome back many cherished artists, and equally thrilled to introduce new voices and fresh sounds—each bringing their own spirit to the tapestry of our season. This season all of our programs revolve around the theme One Truth, Many Variations. This phrase often spoken by one of Danny’s most inspirational mentors, Sandor Vegh was used to express the idea that a single piece of music can be interpreted in countless ways— each distinct, yet all touching the same essential truth of the composer’s intent. It’s a notion that echoes beyond the concert hall. In life, no two voices are the same, yet each expression—like a variation—brings us closer to a shared truth, deepening our connection to what is universal.

Fittingly, several works on this year’s programs feature the form of Theme and Variations—a musical structure in which a melody is introduced and then imaginatively reinterpreted in a series of variations. Much like jazz, each variation can take on a distinct character, offering composers a vibrant canvas for their creativity. Season highlights include another Buster Keaton film with live score, Schoenberg’s hauntingly powerful tone poem accompanied by projected visuals and text, and the world premiere of a new work by Reena Esmail for Hindi-speaking soprano and ensemble. We’re also bringing back our ever-popular Salon Concert and Fiesta, and we’ll close the season in grand style with the Kavafian sisters and the full ensemble performing Bach’s beloved Concerto for Two Violins and Orchestra. We’re thrilled to continue sharing world-class music in the heart of the Enchanted Circle. Welcome!

Board Welcome

Welcome to Season 42 of Music from Angel Fire! Our phenomenal directors, Tara and Danny, have created a program around the theme “One Truth, Many Variations,” and we can’t wait to enjoy with you the captivating programs they have prepared. And speaking of variations, we have an exciting “venue variation” this year. We are pleased to be hosted by Moreno Valley High School for three of our concerts. This collaboration has been a motivating endeavor and we are most appreciative of the opportunity to share the music from such a special setting.

You may not realize it, but to produce Music from Angel Fire requires a year- round effort. Before the last concert ends, ideas and plans are brewing for the next season. The musicians, production staff, Board, advisors, and volunteers work together in this labor of love. And it’s always worth it! We are so glad you are here. Sit back and soak it in – magical music surrounded by magnificent mountains!
